Marketing and hype can really be something else. Twitterific, another Twitter client for the iPhone has gotten much press and honestly, when the apps were launching for the store this July, I had no idea there were any other choices for my Twitter client. Twitterific’s cute little blue bird of an icon got shown everywhere, and look how cute it is!

With a name like icon factory, how could it NOT be cute?

So it was no shock to me why this app was featured everywhere, it was cute and shiny, and I hear the Mac OS X desktop version is just the cat’s pajamas! But it was obvious the first day of using the Twitterific client that it had some, well flaws. It kept crashing, and crashing and crashing. I was not the only one to have issues with it. Everyone I knew on Twitter was cursing the little thing. I heard that there was another app called Twinkle that was awesome, but was not in the app store yet. So I did a small search and found Twittelator. First off the name just made me giggle, so I had to get it.

You can go and read up about this little app here http://www.stone.com/iPhone/Twittelator/. So yes, after downloading the little app through the app store on iTunes and syncing my iPhone, I set to use it. First impressions, it was not as pretty as Twitterific, and the layout was different so it took half a second to figure it out. Once I did though, the flaws and short comings of the homecoming queen were evident, try sending multiple @s to your friends with Twitterific, Twittelator makes this task a breeze. Check out the nifty scroll wheel that comes up with all your friends on it!

SO easy to add @s!!

Yes! Finally, what I needed!! Not only are sending multiple @s much easier, but unlike the free version of Twitterific, this little app comes with no ads. Yes, NO ADs.

Another great feature of Twittelator that I love are the groups, moving off your home screen you can get to all sorts of other sorted tweets, Friends, Replies, Featured, and even My Twitters…ah, so nice and user friendly. This is much closer to the web experience I get with Twitter.

I love the groups on Twittelator

So come on and give this app a try, its the best Twitter client for the iPhone in my opinion, and the guy who makes it just seems super nice! You can follow him here on Twitter http://twitter.com/twittelator

I really like twitterrific as a mac application but haven’t tested it out as much as an iPhone app. I did have a problem with it crashing the first time I installed it. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it seems to be chugging along. I know a lot of people hate ads so Twittelator is a nice alternate choice. I’m a sucker for pretty things so I think that’s why I’m drawn so much to twitterrific. I can’t help it. ;-)

great review Russell – thanks! We are not done by any means – check out the latest news of what’s coming soon: http://www.stone.com/Twittelator/twittelator_news.html and as for “what is pretty” – well that’s in the “I” of the beholder. You’ll soon tire of dark black gradients, trust me! And then, we can always make twittelator prettier! What’s interesting is to search the Twitterverse for “twittelator” – it’s incredible the groundswell for the product, although twitterific has it’s loyalists (and ads!).
