AMD/ATI Real Time Renders

So I got a peak of a (poorly recorded) video of some developers rendering a set in real time on some AMD hardware. Videos and more after the break. . .

Yeah, I was just doing a search for this on Google, and found this little bit on Amazon.com. Specs and pics after the break.

There it is, and its driving 4 displays. Pretty damn sweet for a lappy. This is of course also followed by some ATI press on the technology

Unprecedented Notebook Graphics Performance

  • Thin & light notebook
  • Long notebook battery life
  • Sleek industrial design
  • Support for ATI CrossFireX™ technology multi-GPU capabilities1
  • Independently powered and cooled external graphics solution
True Multimedia Upgradeability

  • Enthusiast-Class graphics performance for Notebooks
  • Support for ATI CrossFireX™ technology multi-GPU capabilities1
  • True multimedia upgradeability for notebooks, ideal for gaming, HD video, browsing and editing
Hot Plug Detection

  • Enables ATI XGP technology on-the-fly
Multi Display Support

  • ATI XGP external graphics solution with a single ATI Radeon™ graphics processor and a notebook PC drive up to 4 displays
Multiple Connectivity Options

  • Dedicated USB 2.0 connector enables attachment of TV Tuners, Blu-ray drives and more
  • Integrated digital outputs to view High-Definition content2 on a variety of devices including HDMI with integrated audio and DVI1

There is also a small technical briefing on it in PDF format, linked here.

Overall I am excited, maybe this will give them the edge they need to muscle into the very competitive laptop sector…and who knows, since Apple likes to use their video chipsets in their products, maybe we will see this in an iMac or Macbook. I would LOVE to drive 4 Cinema Displays with a tiny lappy. :)

So I got this marketing email in my inbox today, from AMD/ATI, and it was basically touting the awesomeness of the AMD 780G chipset. Now, while I am not arguing that this chipset is full featured and fast, cause it is. What I am pissed at is this obvious use of one of my favorite hardware review sites for their own good.  Here is a small cutting from the big red and black email I received today. “After testing nearly non-stop the past two weeks, we think the 780G is the better overall solution and are still amazed that AMD made such a significant jump in IGP performance in such short time” – AnandTech

So, I think you see what I am trying to get at here. The respectable guys over at AnandTech just put out THIS article about the 780G chipset: Post Cards from the Edge – AMD 780G, NVIDIA 790i, Gigabyte 680i

See, they said that all the boards running the 780G chipset all went BOOM when running the LATEST PHENOM PROCESSORS! So AMD/ATI is intentionally misleading the people on their mailing list, using fluff statements made by AnandTech , even when they came out publically to say there were problems with the new 125w chips.

It just seems WRONG to me, by doing this AMD/ATI is going to lead people to indirectly not read AnandTech when their boards blow up. If I were them, I would be PISSED!! This is yet another reason why AMD needs a tier 1 board vendor, make it Sapphire, Asus, WHOEVER!! Just do it. Have control on what type of power system they use, number of PCI slots, take a page from Nvidia when it comes to this, and JUST DO IT AMD! DO IT NOW!!!!!
