If you are into computer hardware, and especially graphic hardware, it has been hard to miss the debut of AMD/ATI’s 4000 series GPU. If you have been totally in the dark, go get caught up here and here. Basically no one has been able to touch their GPU power, only Intel’s vaporware Larrabee has the ability to oust it..on paper. Video and more after the jump
So since AMD has been kicking ass and taking names, Ars just release this article stating how it is going to be tough for AMD to pull ahead and dominate anything in the market. What Ars is not taking into account are some demos I have seen coming out of what AMD calls it’s Cinema 2.0. I have shown a couple of other videos on this topic here on my site, they should still be in the archives. While the previous demos were freaking breathtaking, this newest one totally takes the cake.
I do not think Ars even mentioned the fact that AMD has crafted its GPU to be much more flexible than Nvidia’s, or the fact it appears they are diverging themselves to be something more than just a desktop/consumer graphics vendor.
I for one am excited about all of this new technology coming out this year, 2009 is looking to be exciting, holograms, real time ray tracing…now if only they can figure out REAL teleporters. . .
